Owl Mom and Owlet - Gourd Ornament
Aren’t these little guys just so cute? Do you know a new mother? Perhaps it’s baby’s first Christmas? Show the new family some love with this mother owl with her babies!
Designed and hand-crafted by artists in Peru, our gourd ornaments bring a modern flair to a 4,000-year-old traditional carving and burning technique. Each one is hand-carved and burned by one of our fine artists in Peru. Details vary as nature and the artist intended. They come ready to hang. Price displayed is for one ornament.
Gourds Become Art
Nature starts the story, Peruvian artists complete it.
Gourds, relatives of pumpkins and cucumbers, grow along Peru’s coast and in the jungle. After harvest, they are sun-dried and brought into the Andes, where each one is carefully selected for its shape and size.
Artists first sketch each design in pencil, then carve it by hand with fine chisels. Using pyrography, a traditional technique passed down through generations, they carefully use fire to burn and shade the surface, revealing rich natural tones of caramel, brown, and black.
Good for the Planet. Good for Everyone.
With love for Mother Earth and all beings who depend on her, Lucuma Designs commits at least 1% of annual sales to environmental organizations working to restore ecosystems, support Indigenous communities, and protect natural habitats.
Each year, we select nonprofit partners through the 1% for the Planet network whose work supports causes close to our hearts. Our giving often helps advance food sovereignty, sustainable agriculture, reforestation, solar energy, Indigenous rights, water access, habitat protection, and other environmental initiatives.
Our giving is certified annually through 1% for the Planet, so every Lucuma purchase helps support organizations working toward a healthier, more beautiful world.
