Eduardo Gonza, ceramic artist

Eduardo Gonza founded Q’epay, a family-owned workshop in Arequipa, Peru, known for its charming handmade ceramic nativities. Inspired by Peru’s cultural diversity, Eduardo studies the clothing, traditions, and spirit of different communities, transforming them into joyful figures that celebrate heritage through clay.

His collections began with regional Peruvian cultures and have grown to include designs inspired by indigenous and island communities beyond Peru. Each nativity is molded, fired, smoothed, and painted by hand by a team of skilled ceramic artists, many of them women. Created with appreciation for the beauty of different traditions, these pieces bring originality, warmth, and the spirit of unity to Christmas celebrations around the world.

For thousands of years, Peruvian makers have refined techniques in carving, knitting, pottery, weaving, and jewelry making, passing their knowledge from one generation to the next.
